Standel, originally an amplifier company, was started in
California by Bob Crooks in the late 1950's. The Standel brand
branched into Guitar & Bass models in the 1960's with Semie
Moseley/Mosrite designing the first models.
This bass has a significant historical
feature, the serial number on the fret board is listed as #0001! You
are viewing the very 1st Standel "Custom" Bass ever to roll-off
the assembly-line.
The Standel "Custom" Guitar & Bass Models had a very short run. Less
than 100 were manufactured in '67 & '68 and were endorsed
by the '60s garage-band The Standells. They had two chart-topping
songs with "Dirty Water" & "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White."
